In minecraft, diamond was the highest tier of equipment from Indev in 2010 when crafting was added up until the Nether Update in 2020 with the introduction of Netherite.
Originally, diamonds could only be found by mining diamond ore.
In beta 1.8, abandoned mineshafts were added, which had chests (minecart chests from release 1.5 onward) that could contain diamonds. In beta 1.9 prerelease 3, stronghold chests could have diamonds, and in prerelease 4, the fortune enchantment can increase the drop rate from diamond ore.
The next loot chest type with a chance of diamonds would be the village blacksmith chests.
Desert temples and jungle temples were added, also with loot chests that could have diamonds. Desert temples have 4 chests under the center of the floor, along with a trap with 9 TNT. Jungle temples have a 3 lever puzzle which activates pistons leading to one of the loot chests. The other chest is guarded by a dispenser which shoots arrows when activated by tripwire.
Nether Fortress chests can have diamonds.
Diamonds now appear in End City chests. Balancing things out, nether fortress, desert temple, and mineshaft chests now have a lower chance for diamonds.
Diamond blocks can be found in lava rooms and obsidian rooms in Woodland Mansions.
Buried and shipwreck treasure chests can have diamonds, making them easier to find.
With villages overhauled, diamonds could be found in a weaponsmith chest or the toolsmith chest in desert and taiga villages.
Diamonds can generate in the new bastion remnant treasure chests.
Ore generation in the overworld had been overhauled, so diamond ore generation has been changed, as will be explained later.
Diamonds can now drop from suspicious sand in desert pyramids. Also, deepslate layers of diamond ore have become more common, so you can get some Minecraft Diamonds more easily.
When you find an ocean, search for a shipwreck. It can have a treasure chest in the upper room, which can have diamonds. At the bottom room is a supply chest, which has various crops and stuff. The other chest is the treasure chest, which always contains a treasure map, leading toward a buried treasure. Buried chests have the highest chance for finding diamonds in the game.
If you find a desert, search for a desert pyramid. Check the ground for regular and suspicious sand. Using a brush, carefully excavate the suspicious sand, since diamonds are an uncommon drop. Once you’re done, dig one away from the center of the pyramid and place water to descend. Remove the pressure plate below and, if you want, collect the 9 TNT below it. Check the 4 loot chests, since each chest has a rare chance for diamonds.
If a village contains a house with lava and a grindstone (for taiga villages, just the house with the grindstone) diamonds generate uncommonly in the chest. If you’re looking in a taiga or desert, the toolsmith house, which has a smithing table, has a chest with a rarer chance for diamonds.
Like the netherite upgrades, every armor trim can be duplicated. I recommend only duplicating the rarest armor trims, such as the Silence, Ward, Rib, and Spire trims if you can’t be bothered to search more ancient cities, nether fortresses, or end cities.
If you found music discs you want to play, craft a jukebox with 8 planks and a diamond in the middle. If you have any allays, give them amethyst crystals while music is playing, and they reproduce. Besides shulkers, allays are the only mob in the game which just requires one to breed.
Adding a diamond to a firework star gives it a trail effect. Use them wisely, since firework effects merely last for seconds.
Blocks of diamond can be crafted with 9 diamonds, which can be crafted back into the diamonds if you want them back. Blocks of diamond can be used to power a beacon.
Diamonds give armor trims a cyan color, while using it on diamond armor gives a darker color palette.
